Cheonyeo Gwishin (The Virgin Ghost)

URBAN LEGEND KOREA

Cheonyeo Gwishin
(처녀귀신)
The Virgin Ghost

This time I will tell about the story of Urban Legend from Korea, for Urban Legend from Japan to be continued in the next horror edition. Why Korea? Because Korea also has a strong culture. The proof is that legends and beliefs like this still exist in modern life. As is known, every country must have a unique culture. Folklore and legend are also included in culture. The more the mystery of a legend and story, the more interesting it will be to discuss.

THE STORY :
Cheonyeo Gwishin (처녀 귀신) is a Korean ghost in the form of a long haired woman in white. In Korean legend, young women who die in a virgin will be ashamed of being a virgin. Therefore, the appearance of a ghost of a woman will appear around her relatives and friends. This ghost is described as having long hair, pale white face, and bleeding from his mouth. Cheonyeo Gwishin also wears a white shirt (Korean traditional dress called Hanbok).

Cheonyeo Gwishin Appears Among His Family

In the Korean tradition, a woman has a role to take care of her father, husband and son. If he dies before being able to fulfill his purpose, then his spirit will be cursed to settle on earth forever. Therefore the ghost of Cheonyeo Gwishin always wanders and haunts with full of anger and revenge, Cheonyeo Gwishin will haunt the people around so that his life is not calm and ends with the same fate as it seems. These ghosts often disturb couples who have just married, so that the marriage is not lasting. These ghosts are also often mentioned to like to bring illness and accidents.

Because the mission of his life to get married is not fulfilled, it is impossible for him to cross into the world of spirits. The only way to eliminate the ghostly appearance of Cheohyeo Gwishin is to perform a ritual of exorcism or to marry a virgin ghost (Cheonyeo Gwishin) with a bachelor ghost (Mongdal Gwishin).

처녀귀신

In the progress of the country in this era of modernization, it should never forget things about culture, legend and myths. Because this is a valuable inheritance from the ancestors. Although in this era many ghosts mutated into Urban Legends. Their stories and origins in the past are still well written and by reading them, we can still remember them.
